Fun at the Beach!

It was Mutsy's Birthday at the beach! How fun!

We spent a wonderful week at Holden Beach with Nana, Pa John, Aunt Katy, Davis, and Jack!  The weather could not have been nicer.  It was so much fun to see Jack and Abigail interact with each other (alot of grabbing at each other's faces!) and to spend time with Davis.  Davis has an awesome sense of humor and that perfect little-boy twinkle to his eye.

Since the beach, Abigail has gotten her first tooth!  It didn't seem to cause her that much discomfort, which I know we all appreciate.  Abigail also can scoot her away around the room- I wouldn't exactly call it crawling, but she can move.

Abigail is 6 Months Old!

6 Month Stats:

16 lbs 10 oz
25 1/2 inches
loves:
riding in the grocery cart
screaming
trying to crawl
bananas
smiling at strangers

doesn't love:
squash
shots
when those strangers get too close

Favorite Book: In My Tree

I always knew that babies change rapidly during their first year of life, but it wasn't until Abigail came along that I see that those changes come daily.  Every day, Abigail is more interactive, more aware of her surroundings, and showing signs of definite understanding.  Also, she now sits in the front of the grocery cart and in high chairs at restaurants!

We have our routine down pretty well.  A normal day starts around 8:15 am, with a morning nap, followed by 3 awesome hours of awake time, then 2 great hours of a nap in the afternoon, dinner, and bed around 8:15 pm.  She still isn't consistently sleeping through the night, but we are getting closer (I sincerely hope).

She is simply lots of fun.  She blows raspberries when it is quiet at church, making everyone around us giggle quietly (which prompts her to do it more), she stares at a stranger until they look at her and then she smiles a huge smile. She automatically looks for Ellie when I bring her out of her room after a nap. She is a talker.

A Few Pictures Until the Next Informative Post

Who ever thought we would have a blue-eyed baby?

5 Months!

Abigail is 5 months old!

She wants to be in any position other than her back- stomach, tripod sitting, standing, jumping, etc. A view is what she is after- especially, as I have mentioned, of Ellie.

We are going to introduce a vegetable in the next few days, as the rice cereal doesn't seem to keep her interest (who can blame her?!).  Last night marked her first meal in her high chair!!

Weekend In Savannah

This past weekend we drove down to Savannah to visit with Grann and Gramps.  We had a great time hanging out, going to the pool, and, as always, sharing delicious meals.

Auntie E is so pretty
Really, guys? a sailor hat?

Thanks, Gramps!

Grandma Liz!

Abigail is really starting to like the water- splishing and splashing-  I think she would love it even more if that sun wasn't so bright!

She is also starting to show a bit of her personality.  She definitely understands attention and how awesome attention is.....look away for a few minutes, she will let out a whine, look back at her and she smiles :)   She also has become a big fan of blowing raspberries.  That alone keeps her (and me) entertained for longer than it should :)  And, oh! does she love Ellie.  Abigail laughs, kicks ferociously, and tracks every move of Ellie's. I think it is an unrequited love at this point....Ellie still wants our attention- she doesn't realize yet that attention from Abigail is so much better.

Abigail's First Meal and the beginnings of a Foodie

Abigail will be 5 months old in a little over a week!  For a few weeks now, we've noticed that she is up more during the night.  She isn't just awake, but she is hungry and MAD.  After talking to our doctor, Katy, and consulting the various books around the house, we decided that Abigail might be ready for rice cereal- just once a day to start.

After a wonderful weekend visiting with Grann and Gramps (and Grandma Liz and Auntie E), we thought today would be a great day to get started.   I'm not sure what we were expecting, but Abigail did a great job.  Yes, most of it ended up on her bib- but by the end it seemed that she was actually leaning into the outstretched spoon!  I think she might take after her dad ;)

Enjoy the video!

4 Months!

Below is how I usually find Abigail after a nap- happy and relaxed.  What a life, huh?

And, somehow, we are at 14 weeks!

Well, I realize that I haven't blogged in quite awhile.  It is amazing how the days slip by- between eating, playing, rocking, sometimes a nap here and there and then starting all over 2 hours later....I don't find that I have that much free time on the computer.  When I do, honestly, I am usually on Pinterest!

I know everyone says it, but man is this baby growing up fast! We'll start at the present- look at what she figured out how to do today!

To give you an idea of the bigness of this deal, let me tell you what Abigail was doing during tummy time a day ago. Oh, right, NOTHING!  She sucked on her fist during tummy time. Or she would squirm until she found her fist.... but today! Out of the blue! Turned over! Crazy! And, yes, I made her flip over several times before I took this video.

She has also started with some intense squealing. It's impressive and I will work on getting a recording for your listening pleasure.

For now, please enjoy a few pictures from the last month!

Six Week Letter to Abigail

Abigail,
I'm afraid if I don't write some of this down, I will too quickly forget.   You are six weeks old today.  Six weeks ago, it was a" marvelous night that you were born."  But, man oh man, how marvelous each day has been since then.
Abigail 6 weeks
You are holding your head up on your own more- you still hate tummy time, but enjoy being carried around like an older baby.   This is so you can look around...you look at everything.  I am pretty sure you can see farther than what the books say (just 15 inches away? I don't think so) as you stare at the fan with definite delight.
A week ago you started sleeping in your crib.  Apparently, we should have moved you from the packnplay sooner.  Since being in your crib you have dropped a night feeding.  I love the extra sleep, but I also still love watching you stretch in the middle of the night.
A day and half ago you made your first non-gutteral sound. You ahhed out of the blue. Ever since then you aah and coo constantly.  I love even this most basic communication.
You have the happiest eyes.  You smile more often, and I can tell your "social smile" is just days away.  I'm about to pee in my pants in anticipation of it.
Your grip is changing.  You grab onto my necklace and my shirt with the kind of intensity that claims me as your Mama.  Thank you.
P.S. Your thighs are delicious.

It's Been Awhile and Much Has Happened

So, what do you guys want to hear about? Do you want the "birth story"? or mainly just pictures? or do you want me to brag about how awesome Abigail is...?
hmmm. think about it and let me know in the comments!

Ugly Comparison

So, I was at recess today and was convinced to play four-square with the kids.  I dominate at four-square. Dominate.  It is a speciality.  Of course, within a few minutes, I was at the king position and I held up the basketball.  I turned and showed my profile to my students and held the basketball to the left of my belly at my waist. I asked the kids if they could see the basketball.  They couldn't.

Please, baby, I'm glad you are fully cooked and in there practicing your baby things. But, Mama isn't too excited about being bigger than a basketball at this point. Just letting you know.

The Baby Daddy

I am clearly at the point where it is very obvious that I am "with child."  Anyone walking by me at the store or in the parking lot (I would say on the street, but I actually don't walk by people on streets too often, it turns out) probably think to themselves, "That girl is pregnant."  That's it, "that girl is pregnant."  I'm guilty of this too-- the not-much-attention paid to the baby itself or the family behind that baby, that girl.

Here's what I would like for people to see when they see this particular pregnant belly:

The incredible father of this child.  The father who says goodbye to the baby every morning and goodnight to the baby every night.  The father who eagerly puts together all the baby's furniture.  The father who gets choked up at the thought of the enormous love that is coming.

The husband of this girl.  The husband who believes me beautiful despite all the reasons to not think so right now.  The husband who is proud of this girl and without a doubt trusts this girl to be the mother of his child. The husband who is patient. The husband who works hard without complaints.

Ultimately, this baby and this girl are propelled forward by the love of a sweet man, what a wonderful behind-the-scenes thing to have on our side.

Our Little Girl!

We had an ultrasound this afternoon to check the position of the baby, and to make sure her growth is on track. The last time we saw her was at 18 weeks and you could see her entire little body at once. We are now at 35 weeks, and she is quite a bit bigger! They estimated her weight at around 5 pounds 6 ounces. She is breathing, sucking on her fingers, tapping her fingers across her face, and her little heart is beating strong. So wonderful and relieving to see her doing so well!

Below are several images that we got from the ultrasound- these are pictures of pictures, but I think you can get the idea of how she looks right about now! One month until we get to hold the little sucker!

Here she is sucking her finger- which she pretty much did during the entire ultrasound.

Look at that nose!
